Bicycle Travel

how many inches will a bicycle with 10″ radius wheels travel for every full revolution of the tires?
The wheels on a bicycle have a 10″ radius. Assuming no sliding or slip between the wheel and the road, how many inches will the bicycle travel for every one full revolution of the wheels?
To answer this question we just need to know how big the circumference of the circle is. The circumference is the length of the circle if you were to cut it open and lie it out straight.
There’s a handy formula to calculate this, which is to times the diamater of the circle by Pi, which is 3.14159265.. (and then a whole load of other digits).
The radius of a circle is the distance from it’s center to it’s edge. The diamater is the full distance across the middle of the circle from one edge to the other. So the diamater is just the radius times 2.
Therefore, the answer is:
10 x 2 = 20
20 x Pi (3.14159) = 62.83.
Use the Pi button of a scientific calculator to get a more exact answer.
